NEWS 1 April 2023 to 30 April 2023

The 2023 Season is now fully Open.

After the wettest March for years, April started drier and a little warmer. “Regulars” were not deterred and good catches were soon being made noting the average fish seems to have put on weight over the winter period. With the start of Spring, the first Greylag and Canadian goslings, Mallard ducklings and Moorhen chicks have all arrived safely.

If not already actioned now is an ideal time to:

  1. Apply online for your 2023 Membership @ www.manor-fisheries.co.uk/night-fishing.

  2. Request online your preferred reservation @ www.manor-fisheries.co.uk/reservations.

  3. Repair and replace any missing fishing tackle.

All reservations need sufficient time for payment (minimum 48-hours) noting the local weather forecast can be seen online HERE. We look forward very much to meeting Members both old and new.

No Increase in 2023 Fishing Charges

Subject to change, the website has been updated and all 2023 charges can now be seen at www.manor-fisheries.co.uk.

Membership Charges

These remain unchanged from last year and stay at the 2021 rate. Applications for 2023 Membership can now be made noting Membership numbers will again be limited.

Fishing Charges

These remain unchanged from last year and stay at the 2019 rate. The charges for a non-fishing guest or under 18’s also remain at No Charge.

Member Gift Vouchers

Pre-paid Day and Night tickets may be ordered for a Member via the Reservation tab by indicating in the Comments section a 2023 Voucher is requested. Should the date for fishing not be known, show the date as unknown and the recipient of the Gift Voucher may choose their preferred date subject to availability.

Fishing Report – 1st April 2023 to 30th April 2023

Introduction

Our season began with cold and wet weather but has improved this month. “Regulars” were not deterred and good catches were soon being made noting the average fish size seems to have increased.

The following “Records” from 11th March onwards, are based on angler reports recorded in the Cabin logbook. Congratulations to all those anglers who have featured in all three 2023 Leader Boards @ the Leader Board

Lake 1 (Carp) Logbook Catch Reports

  • Using CC Moore pacific tuna boilie baits, Steve Mundy caught a 16lbs Common at 1.00 pm when visiting on the 1st April.

  • Tony Cook had a good session on the 3rd April and landed 7 x Carp on squid plus octopus boilie baits including Commons weighing 17lbs 2ozs, 15lbs 12ozs, 13lbs 2ozs, 11lbs 8ozs and 9lbs 4ozs plus Mirrors weighing 11lbs 2ozs and 10lbs 6ozs.

  • Arriving for a short break on the 6th April Mark Pearson fished Lake 1 (Carp) and Lake 3 (Mixed) with success including:

    • 6 April – Lake

      • Using shrimp and boilie baits, Mark landed Commons weighing 17lbs, 14lbs 8ozs and 6lbs.

    • 7 April – Lake 1

      • Again, using shrimp and boilie baits, Mark landed Commons weighing 15lbs and 13lbs.

    • 9 April – Lake

      • 6 x Carp including Commons weighing 10lbs 11ozs, 8lbs 12ozs, 8lbs and 4lbs 12ozs plus Mirrors weighing 6lbs 4ozs and 4lbs 2ozs and all caught using luncheon meat bait.

  • Stuart Wood visited on the 6th April and fishing off the top landed Commons weighing 16lbs 4ozs and 15lbs.

  • With a chilly morning on the 7th April followed by sunshine, Sean Fletcher had success in landing a 20lbs 2ozs Common.

  • Stephen O’Neill visited on the 8th April and caught 2 x Mirrors weighing 17lbs and 12lbs when pink pop-ups was the successful bait.

  • Visiting on the 8th April, David Golding landed a 15lbs Common and a 12lbs Mirror.

  • Danny and Mark Donnelly both had success on the 8th April catching:

    • Danny – 2 x Commons weighing 15lbs 7ozs and 15lbs 4ozs using krill boilie baits.

    • Mark – 3 x Commons weighing 18lbs 6ozs, 16lbs 4ozs and 14lbs 6ozs using tuna pacific boilie baits.

  • Regular Terry Hare returned on the 11th April and using pacific tuna boilie baits caught 3 x Commons weighing 18lbs 8ozs, 17lbs 4ozs and 216lbs.

  • Adrian Burton used Cell baits on the 11th April and caught 2 x Carp including 12lbs 5ozs Common and a 7 lbs 12ozs Mirror.

  • Returning on the 16th April, Simon Rasho used pop-ups with PVA bags to catch 2 x Mirrors to 17lbs 8ozs plus a Common.

  • Regular Danny Smith arrived on the 17th April for 36-hours and had a great session including 3 x 20’s to finish with 9 x Carp including weights of:

    • Commons – 21lbs 4ozs, 21lbs, 18lbs 8ozs, 18lbs, 17lbs and 15lbs

    • Mirrors – 21lbs 8ozs, 18lbs 4ozs and 17lbs 2ozs

  • Both Ian and David Foster had successes during their visit on the 18th April catching Carp weighing:

    • Ian – 12lbs 7ozs, 10lbs 14ozs and 10lbs 6ozs

    • David – 11lbs 11ozs

  • Regular Terry Hare used pacific tuna boilie baits during his visit on the 18th April and landed 3 x Commons weighing 19lbs 14ozs – Manor Fisheries PB, 16lbs 4ozs and 10lbs 8ozs.

  • Using the Sauce baits on the 19th April Peter Austen landed Commons weighing 15lbs 6ozs and 12lbs.

  • Stuart Wood landed 6 x Commons on the 20th April weighing 17lbs 6ozs, 17lbs 2ozs, 14lbs 8ozs, 13lbs 8ozs, 11lbs 6ozs and 11lbs 1ozs where squid boilies were the successful baits.

  • On the 21st April Luke Jewell caught a 18lbs 6ozs Common using krill boilie baits.

  • Visiting on the 22nd April Dean Nixon and son Oscar had success using pineapple boilie baits:

    • Dean – Commons weighing 16lbs 2ozs, 15lbs 11ozs and 15lbs 10ozs

    • Oscar – 17lbs 2ozs Common

  • Colin and Christine Holder returned on the 22nd April for short break and between bursts of heavy rain targeted the Carp to land weights of:

    • 24th

      • Christine – Mirrors of 13lbs and 12lbs using meat and sweetcorn baits.

    • 25th

      • Christine – 13lbs 4ozs Common using Moores boilie baits.

      • Colin – Commons of 17lbs and 10lbs 8ozs using curried luncheon meat baits.

    • 28th

      • Christine – a 14lbs Mirror and a 12lbs Common

  • Beginning their 36-hour visit late on the 26th April, Dominic Minney and Jessica Wood soon had successes using 20mm Manilla Boilie baits topped with pop-up corn, landing 15 x Carp in total. With a double take at 5.30 am Jessica landed a 21lbs Mirror and Dominic a 17lbs 13ozs PB Common. Their catch included:

    • Jessica

      • Mirrors – 21lbs, 19lbs 11ozs and 12lbs 1oz

      • Commons – 17lbs 15ozs, 17lbs 1oz, 15lbs 15ozs, 15lbs 3ozs, 15lbs 1oz and 11lbs 11ozs

    • Dominic

      • Commons – 17lbs 13ozs PB, 16lbs, 14lbs 1oz, 13lbs 3ozs, 12lbs 11ozs and 11lbs 12ozs

Their 17lbs 13ozs Common and 21lbs Mirror - well done.

  • Visiting on the 28th April Timothy Day caught Commons weighing 14lbs 12ozs and 11lbs 2ozs where chocolate and orange boilie was the successful bait.

  • David and Kenny Darvill used method feeders with yellow pop-ups on the 29th April and successfully landed 13 x Carp including weights of:

    • David – Commons of 18lbs and 2 x 13lbs totalling 44lbs.

    • Kenny – Commons of 17lbs, 3 x 14lbs, 2 x 13lbs and 2 x 12lbs plus Mirrors of 13lbs and 12lbs totalling 133lbs.

  • Steven Mundy visited on the 29th April and landed 5 x Carp weighing 16lbs, 15lbs, 14lbs 8ozs, 12lbs and 11lbs totalling 68lbs 8ozs.

  • Tony Cook returned on the 30th April and using squid and octopus boilie baits landed 5 x Carp including Commons weighing 20lbs 14ozs, 17lbs 6ozs and 12lbs 6ozs plus Mirrors of 12lbs 12ozs and 12lbs 2ozs.

  • Returning on the 29th April Stephen O’Neil fished the margins using PVA bags and pink corn and late afternoon landed 2 x 15lbs Commons.

Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) Logbook Catch Reports

  • Mark and Sue Rogers returned on the 3rd April and using liver plus garlic glug baits it was Mark who this time landed a 27lbs 8ozs Cat

  • Arriving on the 9th April for a 36-hour session, the weather changed from sunshine to constant rain when Liam Henderson targeted the Cats using halibut pellet and fishy boilie baits. Liam’s catch began with a 10lbs Common which was soon followed by 5 x Cats weighing from 10lbs to 20lbs. At approximately 9.00pm Liam was rewarded with a 41lbs Cat to top the Cat Leader Board – well done.

  • It was a “Game of two halves” when Chris Batten and Paul Lewis arrived on the 14th April for a 60-hour session - constant heavy rain was followed by sunshine. Their catch included weights of:

    • Chris – 30lbs Cat using spicy krill and squid boilie baits

    • Paul – Commons of 16lbs 11ozs, 12lbs, 11lbs 8ozs, 10lbs 5ozs and 10lbs

  • Mark and Sue Rogers returned on the 18th April and using liver plus garlic glug baits it was Sue’s turn who this time landed a 25lbs 9ozs Cat.

Lake 3 (Mixed) Logbook Catch Reports

  • Many congratulations to Matthew Smith who during a short break had successes fishing both Lake 1 (Carp) and Lake 3 (Mixed)

    • 3 April – Lake 3

      • Commons weighing 9lbs, 7lbs 12ozs, 6lbs 9ozs and 6lbs 2ozs on caster

      • Mirrors weighing 8lbs 13ozs and 8lbs 4ozs

      • Bream weighing 6lbs 2ozs, 5lbs 1oz, 4lbs 7ozs, 3lbs 11ozs and 3lbs 6oz

      • A Tench weighing 4lbs 5ozs to top the Tench Leader Board

    • 4 April – Lake 1

      • Using hallibut pellet baits caught Commons weighing 16lbs 8ozs and 14lbs 2oz

    • 5 April – Lake 3

      • Commons weighing 9lbs 14ozs, 8lbs 12ozs, 7lbs 5ozs and 6lbs 2ozs on caster

      • Mirrors weighing 8lbs 0ozs, 8lbs 1oz and 5lbs 3oz

      • A Bream weighing 4lbs 1oz

      • A Tench weighing 4lbs 10ozs to again top the Tench Leader Board

  • Arriving for a short break on the 6th April Sandra and Carl Nevill fished Lake 3 (Mixed) with success including

    • 8th April

      • Sandra – Mirrors weighing 8lbs 8ozs, 7lbs 7ozs, 6lbs 6ozs and 5lbs 11ozs

      • Carl – Mirrors weighing 7lbs 12ozs and 7lbs 7ozs plus a 8lbs 3ozs Common all on pineapple boilies

    • 9th Apri

      • Sandra – using a new rod a 8lbs 11ozs PB Mirror

      • Carl – Commons weighing 8lbs 12ozs and 7lbs 12ozs plus a 4lbs 14ozs Mirror.

  • Visiting on the 7th April, Ted Welch and grandson Dominic used pineapple boilie baits to catch 5 x Carp including weights of:

    • Ted – 9lbs and 8lbs 8oz

    • Dom – 10lbs 5ozs, 9lbs 6ozs and 9lbs 1oz

  • Halibut pellet was the successful bail on the 9th April when Brian Kirby landed 3 x Commons weighing 8lbs and 6lbs 5ozs and 6lbs.

  • Tony Osbourne and Gary Jennings visited on the 16th April when their “Mixed” catch included Tench, Carp and Bream.

  • It was a special day on the 19th April when James Crank introduced his 4-year-old son Arthur to fishing. Arthur starting with mixing bait and followed this with p-a-t-i-e-n-c-e which resulted in Arthur soon displaying both Carp and Tench caught by James – a wonderful day to remember.

  • Despite continuous rain during a short break, Sharon Bunting persevered on the 22nd April landed 5 x Carp including weights of:

    • Commons – 7lbs, 6lbs and 3lbs on corn

    • Mirrors – 6lbs and 2lbs on peanut crunch boilie

  • Returning on the 29th April Martin Crease had a great mixed catch including:

    • 5 x Tench to 3lbs

    • 10 x Carp to 9lbs 8ozs

    • 2 x Bream to 3lbs

  • When visiting on the 29th April, Mark White landed 5 x Carp to 9lbs.
